Multifaceted actor Vijay Antony's newest social drama Pichaikkaran 2 will soon make its digital debut. The movie is getting ready to premiere on Disney+Hostar on June 23. However, an official confirmation on the same is awaited.
Vijay Antony sprung a surprise with Pichaikkaran 2 at the box office. The movie defied all the predictions of the trade by drawing crowds to cinemas across the southern states. Pichaikkaran 2 is the sequel to Antony's previous hit Pichaikkaran. In the earlier movie, Antony played a role of a rich businessman who is forced to live his life in disguise as a beggar seeking a divine intervention to save his bedridden mother. And through his experience, the movie analysed the country's crushing poverty and even recommended ways to tackle the menace of black money.
In 2016, when the Indian government demonetised Rs 1000 and Rs 500 banknotes, the movie gained nationwide popularity. While the first film was written and directed by Sasi, Vijay Antony directed and co-wrote Pichaikkaran 2.
Besides writing, directing and producing it, Vijay Antony also played a double role in it. It seemed that he staked everything he had on this movie. And his gamble paid off when it was released in cinemas on May 19. The movie took a good opening, especially in Tamil Nadu and the Telugu states. According to reports, this movie remained a top choice for moviegoers for two straight weeks in the Telugu states making it one of the big hits of recent times.
Made on a medium budget of Rs 15 crore, Pichaikkaran 2 entered the profit zone quickly after its theatrical release.
Judging from the trailer, it appears that Pichaikkaran 2 revolves around Vijay Gurumoorthy, a wealthy individual who embarks on a mission to eliminate poverty in India by giving up his entire fortune. However, his selfless choice triggers a rebellion within his own company, ultimately resulting in his presumed assassination.
The movie also stars Kavya Thapar, Dato Radha Ravi, Y Gee Mahendran, Mansoor Ali Khan, Hareesh Peradi, John Vijay, Dev Gill and Yogi Babu.
