​Vijay Antony got injured on the sets of his upcoming film Pichaikkaran 2. The shoot was happening in Langkawi island in Malaysia and the actor is now admitted to the hospital. Giving an update about the same, producer Dhananjayan said that Vijay Antony is stable and recovering and that his family is flying to Malaysia to be with him. He wrote on his social media handle, "Been checking since morning with Team there & family members. @vijayantony was injured while shooting for #Pichaikkaran2 at #Lankavi . He is now stable & recovering. His family is flying tonight to be with him. #VijayAntony is a strong man & praying for his speedy recovery (sic)."

Pichaik​karan 2 has Vijay Antony, Yogi Babu, John Vijay and Kavya Thapar as part of the star cast. Vijay Antony has also doubled up as the director of the film. The film, which is releasing in Tamil, Malayalam (Bhikshakkaran2), Telugu (Bichagadu2) and Kannada (Bhikshuka2) is all set to be released in Hindi as well and Vijay Antony had made the announcement about the same recently. The actor revealed that the teaser of the film will also be launched on the YouTube channel. The film, which is touted to be an emotional drama, is all set to hit screens in the summer of 2023. The satellite and digital rights of the film have been bagged by Star Network.

The original film Pichaikkaran was released in 2016 and the action thriller was written and directed by Sasi. The film starred Vijay Antony, Satna Titus and Bagavathi Perumal, and was bankrolled by Vijay Antony himself. The plot revolves around a rich businessman, who has to live as a beggar for 48 days and not reveal his identity. The film was deemed successful and was later remade in Kannada as Amma I Love You, Odia as Baby and Marathi as Bhikari.
