Prithviraj Sukumaran’s passion project Aadujeevitham is in theatres. The Malayalam original film, based on a very popular novel of the same name by Benyamin, is given a big screen version by National Award winning filmmaker Blessy. At nearly three hours run-time, Aadujeevitham the film does not have much by way of dialogues, but the lines that are spoken do not have subtitles.

So, if you were hoping to watch the Malayalam original but do not understand the language, well, you will have to catch it in your mother tongue. The film has, after all, been dubbed in Kannada, Tamil, Telugu, Hindi and English, with Prithviraj dubbing for his portions in all. In fact, not only does the film not have English subtitles, not all of the Arabic portions get translations. Random few lines that the team thought absolutely necessary for the progression of the narrative get subtitles, albeit in the primary language the film is presented.

In a city like Bengaluru, for instance, the Kannada version has got a princely 6 shows in all, while Tamil gets a slightly better deal, and Telugu has maybe 2-3 shows at the most. The Malayalam original has the lion’s share of allotted screens. The narrative from the team is that the lack of subtitles for the primary language (Malayalam, Kannada, Tamil, etc., as the case maybe) is a technical glitch, while the limited subtitles for the Arabic dialogues is a creative decision.

So, unless you have a show of the film in the language of your choice nearby, you may have to wait until the team figures out the issue with the subtitles and irons out this kink. Aadujeevitham, meanwhile, has opened to wild praise for leading man Prithviraj Sukumaran, with the film, though receiving mixed reaction. Blessy’s film is not very soul-stirring, after all, felt many.
