Emilia Clarke, who rose to fame with Game of Thrones, has joined hands with Haley Lu Richardson to appear as female spies from the 1970s Moscow, after their husbands get mysteriously killed. The duo is named ‘PONIES’ in the espionage thriller that means ‘Person of No Interest' in the spy world. The series is set during the 1977 Cold War, where Emilia plays Bea (an educated Russian-speaker) and Haley Lu plays Twila (fearless and abrasive) work at the American Embassy.
The espionage thriller series will be released on JioHotstar (also accessible via OTTplay Premium) from January 16, just a day after its premiere on Peacock on January 15, 2026 in the US. Ponies consists of eight episodes, all will be dropped on the same date.
The espionage thriller series features Emilia Clarke (as Bea) and Haley Lu Richardson (Twila) in the leads, along with Adrian Lester (as Dane), Artjom Gilz (as Andrei), Nicholas Podany (as Ray), Petro Ninovskyi (as Sasha), Vic Michaelis (as Cheryl) and Maxim Gall (as Trent) in supporting roles.
The thriller series is set in 1977, during the Cold War in Moscow, featuring two PONIES Bea and Twila (Persons of No Interest), who lost their husbands. However, their lives take a dark turn when they are hired by the CIA as operatives to investigate their respective husbands' deaths, who are mysteriously killed. As they embark on the investigation, Bea and Twila uncover the darkest conspiracy during the Cold War. The stakes are higher as one wrong move can cost them everything, as well as their lives.
You can expect to witness women empowerment during the 1970s timeline when females were underestimated by the intelligence world. Throughout the series, the story will focus on the two women using their individual skills and intelligence to navigate the dangerous conspiracy, solve their husbands' murders, and function in a high-stakes, male-dominated world.
The 2-minute-40-second video highlights how Bea and Twila, who are absolutely unknown to each other, quickly become friends. The trailer reveals some epic comic relief moments to ease the intense themes up. “We are women, people only look at us if they want to have sex with us or marry us, and that's it. No one would ever suspect anything of us”, says Twila in the video.
Adrian Lester appears as Dane, a CIA operative who introduces Bea and Twila to the CIA. He says, "This job demands sacrifice. Most people are not cut out for it”, between some action-packed shoot outs, fights and chase scenarios, hinting that the whole series is filled with unexpected twists and thrilling action sequences.
