The highly-awaited movie Ponniyin Selvan 2 is generating strong interest among movie buffs, according to reports. Despite some murmurs about the lack of real hype for the movie, which is director Mani Ratnam's most ambitious film yet, the response to advanced bookings in the US has been "very positive", with tickets priced at $25 and above selling fast.

"#PS2 people who complain no hype or promotion. Currently #PS franchise is greater than any superstars in Tamilcinemas," said Varun, co-founder of US-based streaming platform Tentkotta.

The epic is based on the classic Tamil novel Ponniyin Selvan, which was written by iconic writer Kalki.

A Twitter user shared a screenshot of a cinema displaying fast-filling seats, stating, "Advance bookings for #PonniyinSelvan part 2 have started in the USA with a very positive response. It's exactly the same scenario as #PS1 where pre-release online hype was low, but advance booking was terrific!"

Lyca Productions, which has bankrolled the epic saga, is giving the movie a wide release in the US , directly distributing the movie in the country. The movie is set to premiere in the US on April 27 and in cinemas worldwide on April 28, with multiple formats including IMAX and 4DX.

Ponniyin Selvan 1 was a box office hit, raking in nearly Rs 500 crore from its worldwide ticket sales. With an ensemble cast that includes Vikram, Karthi, Jayam Ravi, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Trisha, Jayaram, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Sobhita Dhulipala, Prabhu, R. Sarathkumar, Vikram Prabhu, Prakash Raj, Rahman, R. Parthiban, and Lal, expectations are high for the second part. And Oscar-winning composer AR Rahman scored the music for the film.

Fans eagerly anticipate the continuation of the epic tale inspired by Tamil history. The strong response to advanced bookings suggests that the hype for Ponniyin Selvan 2 is real, despite the murmurs to the contrary.
