Mani Ratnam's magnum opus Ponniyin Selvan: I have achieved yet another feat. The film has been nominated in six categories at the 16th edition of the Asian Film Awards. The categories include the Best Film award, Best Original Music for AR Rahman, Best Editing award for Sreekar Prasad, Best Production Design for Thota Tharrani, Best Cinematography award for Ravi Varman and Best Costume Design award for Eka Lakhani. The six nominations have come as a major boost for the film and the team.

The only other film that made it to the nomination list include SS Rajamouli's RRR starring Jr NTR and Ram Charan, which was nominated in two categories.

In the meantime, the makers have announced the release date of the sequel to the film. The sequel will hit screens on April 28 and the team dropped a short video providing a glimpse to the sequel. They wrote on their social media handle, "Let’s get those swords in the air as we await the 28th of April 2023 (sic)!."

The film is an adaptation of the five-part novel Ponniyin Selvan penned by Kalki. The plot revolves around the battle for the Chola throne after the reigning king Sundara Cholar falls ill. Vikram plays the Crown Prince Aditha Karikalan, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan as Nandini Devi (Queen of Pazhuvoor), Jayam Ravi as the younger prince Arulmozhi Varman, Trisha as Ilaiya Piratti Kundavai and Karthi as the spy and commander of the Chola Army Vallavarayan Vanthiyathevan. The rest of the star cast includes Prakash Raj, Sarathkumar, Parthiban, Prabhu, Rahman, Vikram Prabhu, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Sobhita Dhulipala and Jayachitra to name a few.

Ponniyin Selvan's music score is by AR Rahman and some of the chartbusters include Chola Chola, Sol, Ponni Nadhi to name a few. The film was bankrolled by Madras Talkies and Lyca Productions.
