Chiyaan Vikram's latest offering Ponniyin Selvan is going great guns at the box office. Even as the film inches towards making Rs 475 crore at the worldwide box office, we hear that its collection has already surpassed Rs 200 crore in Tamil Nadu. The other top grossers in the state to make it to the list include Vikram, Baahubali 2, Viswasam and Bigil. Meanwhile, the magnum opus has been declared as the all-time number one Tamil film in Germany, which is yet another milestone. The film is expected to make a steady run in the third week until the Diwali releases, Karthi's Sardar and Sivakarthikeyan's Prince hit screens on October 21.

Ponniyin Selvan, directed by Mani Ratnam, is an adaptation of Kalki's eponymous novel of the same name penned in the 1950s. The five-part novel is considered one of the most revered works in Tamil literature. The film has an ensemble star cast which includes Vikram, Trisha, Jayam Ravi, Karthi and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan in the lead. The film, which has music by AR Rahman, opened to positive reviews on September 30.

In the meantime, Chiyaan Vikram, who played the Chola Crown Prince Aditha Karikalan, is basking in the success of the film. He recently sent across a special message to his fans as he completed 32 years in the film industry. The actor shared a fan-made video edit of his career on his social media handle, and wrote, "All these years. So many dreams. It is said that effort pays off. If you don't, it's just an attempt.  Thank you for these 32 years. & Abhinandan KK. Thank you for your lovely edit (sic)."  The actor has now begun work on his next with Pa Ranjith, which is tentatively being referred to as Chiyaan61. The film is billed as a pan-India project and will revolve around the lives of marginalised communities living in the Kolar Gold Fields in pre-independence India.
