​With just two days to go for the release of Mani Ratnam's magnum opus Ponniyin Selvan, the makers are busy with the last-minute promotions. The lead star cast, too, which has been shuttling across the country, for the promotions, is now heading back to Chennai after a whirlwind tour. Ponniyin Selvan has become one of the most aggressively promoted Tamil films in the recent past. In the latest pictures released by the team, the star cast including Trisha, Karthi and Jayam Ravi, are seen sporting T-shirts with the tagline, The Cholas Are Coming.


In the meantime, the makers have released a sneak peek from the film. In the video, we see Ravidasan, portrayed by Kishore, leading the Pandyas and taking an oath to sever the head of Chola crown prince Aditha Karikalan, who beheaded the Pandya king Veera Pandiyan. They also take a vow to kill Sundara Cholar and Aditha Karikalan's brother Arunmozhi Varman and promise to offer their blood to Goddess Kottravai. We also get a glimpse of Amarabujanga Pandiyan, son of Veera Pandiyan sitting atop a cave. 


The film has Vikram playing Aditha Karikalan, Jayam Ravi essaying the role of Arunmozhi Varman and Trisha as Ilaiya Piratti Kundavai. Prakash Raj plays Sundara Cholar in the film, father of the Chola siblings. While Karthi will be see as the spy and commander of the Chola Army Vallavarayan Vanthiyathevan, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan will be seen as Nandini, the queen of Periya Pazhuvettaraiyar who is all set to take revenge on Aditha Karikalan and the Cholas. The film is based on the adaptation of Kalki's novel of the same name.

Ponniyin Selvan is Mani Ratnam's dream project and the film was shot during the pandemic. The film will be released in two parts and the shoot for both portions are over. The first part will hit screens worldwide on September 30 and the second part is expected to release in mid-summer 2023.
