Jayam Ravi's next, which was until now being referred to as JR29, has been titled Iraivan. The film stars Jayam Ravi and Nayanthara in the lead and is directed by Ahmed, who had earlier helmed Manithan. Yuvan Shankar Raja has scored the music for the film. The first-look poster was shared by Jayam Ravi's Ponniyin Selvan co-star Karthi. Taking to his social media handle, Karthi wrote, "Happyyyy to share the first look poster of dear @actor_jayamravi #Iraivan Wishing the team all success!! #Nayanthara @Ahmed_filmmaker @thisisysr @Sudhans2017 (sic)."
The film is said to be a psychological thriller and the first-look poster has an intense Jayam Ravi with the shadow of Nayanthara and him in the background. This will be the second time that Jayam Ravi and Nayanthara will be teaming up for a film. The last time they had worked together was in Thani Oruvan, the 2015 film directed by Mohan Raja. It was a massive hit at the box office and marked the comeback of Aravind Swami in the industry, this time around as a villain. (Though the actor had worked in Mani Ratnam's Kadal, the film failed to make an impact.
Jayam Ravi was last seen in Mani Ratnam's magnum opus Ponniyin Selvan. He plays the titular character in the film, that of Chola Prince Arulmozhi Varman, who is fondly known as Ponniyin Selvan. The film is an adaptation of Kalki's novel of the same name and has an ensemble star cast including Vikram, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Karthi, Jayam Ravi, Trisha, Sarathkumar, Prakash Raj, Aishwarya Lekshmi to name a few. The plot revolves around the battle for the Chola throne after the reigning king Sundara Chola falls ill. The second installment of the magnum opus is all set to release in the summer of 2023 and the makers had announced the release date as April 28.
