Karthi, who is basking in the success of his historical fiction, the magnum opus Ponniyin Selvan, is now gearing up for his next, Sardar. The film, helmed by PS Mithran, is a spy thriller in which Karthi will be playing dual roles. While one of the characters will be playing a police officer, who likes attention and publicity, the other is said to be that of a spy. The trailer of the film was released recently and has set the internet abuzz.

In the meantime, we hear that Karthi's spy character will be sporting 15 different looks in the film and each will have a unique body language. Karthi had stated the film will be a grounded Indian spy thriller. During the promotions of the film, Karthi had said, "My character will be rooted in Tamil Nadu. Imagine a spy who grew up here - what would he do and how would he think? That's how native it would be. The plot will have the character traverse all the countries bordering India." Interestingly, Chiyaan Vikram's Cobra which hit screens recently, too, had Vikram sporting multiple getups in the film. Kamal Haasan's Dasavatharam (2008), too had the Ulaganayagan sporting ten getups.

Sardar marks the debut of Bollywood actor Chunky Panday and the return of the 2000's star Laila after a hiatus of 16 years. Raashi Khanna and Rajisha Vijayan will be playing the leading ladies in it. Music for the film is by GV Prakash Kumar and Karthi has also sung a song in the film, titled Yerumayileri. The film will hit screens on October 21 in Tamil and Telugu and the team has been busy with the promotions. Meanwhile the FDFS of Sardar is at 8am.

Karthi's previous Diwali release was Kaithi, which was released in 2019. One of the looks in Sardar, where he is seen driving a truck, seems to be inspired by his character in Kaithi. PS Mithran had earlier directed Irumbu Thirai, Hero and Trigger. If Sarda turns out to be a hit, Karthi would have indeed scored a hatrick at the box office in 2022 after the success of Viruman and Ponniyin Selvan.
