Jalikkattu and Angamaly Diaries actor Antony Varghese’s latest Malayalam movie Poovan is gearing up to release on OTT. OTTplay had earlier revealed that the movie’s streaming rights have been bagged by ZEE5, which is set to drop the movie in March. The streaming platform has now confirmed the release date.

Poovan, which was shot last year, marked the directorial debut of Super Sharanya actor Vineeth Vasudevan. The comedy-drama was scripted by actor Varun Dhara and starred Antony Varghese, Vineeth Vishwan, Gireesh AD, Anishma Anilkumar, Maniyanpilla Raju, Annies Abraham, Akhila Bhargavan and Vineeth Vasudevan in pivotal roles. The movie, which hit theatres on January 20, also has a rooster in a pivotal role.

What is Poovan about?

Poovan revolves around the incidents that happen in Hari and his family’s life in a span of a year since the arrival of a rooster. Already suffering from sleepless nights, Hari’s life turns topsy-turvy with his sister eloping with a man he doesn’t approve of, his relationship with his brother-in-law never quite improving due to a series of misunderstandings and his insomnia worsening. Hari blames the rooster for all of this, and finally decides to get his revenge.

The movie fits into the Gireesh AD universe of films where the background and setting of the movie gets more due than its characters. In Poovan, the subplots involve what happens to Hari’s sister, his neighbours and his group of friends – all of which are sometimes given more importance than the main plot.
