It sure seems like a packed year for Ashok Selvan. After Modern Love Chennai, the actor is basking in the success of his latest flick, Por Thozhil, helmed by debutant Vignesh Raja. The film revolves around two cops, a veteran and a novice, who are on a mission to find a serial killer in Trichy. While Sarathkumar plays the experienced cop, Ashokselvan plays the new recruit.

Ashok Selvan tells OTTplay, "This is the first time that I am playing a full-fledged cop role. I appeared as one in a small episode in Nitham Oru Vaanam. The best part about this role is that it's not the typical meesai murukkra cop, but someone who is a bit fearful. He is a rookie because he is a trainee."

Even as he is on cloud nine with the accolades pouring in for Por Thozhil, Ashok Selvan is gearing up for his next, Blue Star. The film is directed by S Jayakumar and is bankrolled by Pa Ranjith.

"Blue Star is a sports drama set in Arakkonam. We have had many films on sports like Chennai 600028, but there are barely any films set in a small town or village. Here, the action happens in Arakkonam. The shoot has been wrapped up and it was great fun working in it. I felt quite different acting in the film as if I was taken back to the '90s."

The Modern Love Chennai actor says that he had to work hard on the look for the film. "All of us had to put in a lot of effort and shoot under the fiery sun for hours. I lost 8 kg, and so did Shanthnu and Prithvi because we play youngsters in their early 20s. Since Shanthnu and I have played cricket together in the Celebrity Cricket League, it was fun working with him. He is a great guy and it didn't feel like we were working together for the first time.``

The actor also recalled the days in school when he played cricket. "I used to spend a lot of time on the ground then. What would your look be like if you were playing under the hot sun for 6 hours? I have matched the complexion from then for the authenticity of the look," says Ashok Selvan.
