Diganth Manchale, Dhanya Ramkumar, Sharmiela Mandre and several others star in the film, which Karthik Gowda describes as an 'out-and-out caper'
In a recent exclusive and very candid conversation with OTTplay, Karthik Gowda described the new collaboration with TVF, or The Viral Fever, as the beginning of a new phase for KRG Studios. Having established the studio as a premiere distribution house in Karnataka which now has some of the biggest Kannada (and a few Telugu superhits like Dasara, Hit 2, etc.) releases to its name, the founders of KRG sought a new direction for their aspirations as film producers.
Enter TVF, who themselves wished to enter the south, and the two entities would strike a co-production collab that would focus entirely on the four south Indian industries, but with one film at a time.
A comic caper to kick things off
And the first endeavour in this pursuit will be a Kannada film whose title and first-look poster was unveiled earlier today, on August 25. Titled Powder, the film boasts a rather enterprising cast led by Diganth Manchale, Dhanya Ramkumar and Sharmiela Mandre with Aachar & Co's Anirudh Acharya, Ravishankar Gowda and veteran actors Rangayana Raghu & Achyuth Kumar, too, part of the cast. Joining them is actor Chu Khoy Sheng, the Chinese-descent actor best known for his acting gigs in Tamil films like Anbarivu and the more recent Prime Video anthology, Moden Love Chennai.
The makers took to social media to share the first-look poster to announce that Powder will arrive in cinemas on April 5, 2024.
Directing this fun bunch is Janardhan Chikkanna of Gultoo and Agnyathavasi fame. Having won critical acclaim with his debut feature starring Naveen Shankar, the filmmaker currently awaits the release of his second outing, the mystery thriller Agnyathavasi.
Produced by Hemanth M Rao, Agnyathavasi is a hill-station murder mystery set in the late '90s with Rangayana Raghu, Pavana Gowda, Siddu Moolimane, Ravishankar Gowda and others forming the central cast.
A blend of young talent for 'Powder'
In the same chat with OTTplay, Karthik Gowda also alluded to the fact that KRG Studios, now flanked by TVF, will want to work with a younger talent which not only includes actors but also filmmakers, writers, musicians and technicians. Powder, the film, has been written by Deepak Venkateshan with Sean Roldan (Jai Bhim, Good Night, Modern Love Chennai, etc.) scoring the music and Bharath MC (Sakutumba Sametha, Humble Politician Nograj, etc) editing the film. Shanthi Sagar (Gultoo, Hondisi Bareyiri) handles the cinematography with Vishwas Kashyap (Aachar & Co) taking care of production design.
Powder is being produced by Karthik Gowda, Yogi G Raj, Vijay Subramaniam and TVF's Arunabh Kumar.
