Pradhan-actress Mamata Shankar shares the story of working with Mrinal Sen in Mrigayaa

Mrinal Sen's film Mrigayaa was released in 1976 and Mamata Shankar, in her debut, won the audience's attention. She then did many films, but not many people know how she got the chance in Mrigayaa. Mamata Shankar shared that story on the stage of Didi Number 1. 

Mamata Shankar’s film Pradhan was recently released. The team, as part of the film's promotion, came to play at Didi Number 1. Dev, Soumitrisha, and Anirban Chakrabarti were also there. During their chat with anchor Rachna Banerjee, Rachna asked Mamata Shankar about her childhood and how she became an actress.

Mamata Shankar said, “My childhood was like other children. I grew up in an environment of dancing. But no one forced me to be a dancer.” Then she told the story of Mrigayaa. “I got many offers to act in films. However, my parents did not want me to enter the film world at such a young age. My elder brother supervised the music department in three films of Mrinal Sen. Mrinal da told me that if I ever considered acting, I should let him know. After entering college, when I contacted him, he said he needed a tribal girl for a film. That was it, then.”

Mamata Shankar played Paran Bandyopadhyay’s wife in Pradhan, released on December 22. Dev plays the protagonist. Anirban, Paran Bandyopadhyay, Soumitrisha Kundu, and Soham Chakraborty play other important roles.
