Not too long ago, actor and filmmaker Prakash Belawadi was the reason that Bollywood superstar Akshay Kumar was yet again outed for reading, rather than memorizing, his lines. The scene was from Sarfira, in which Prakash while facing Akshay, had leaned a tad too much to one side, blocking the latter’s clear view of the teleprompter, which was a matter of much discussion and ridicule on social media. Instead of maintaining eye contact with Prakash, Akshay had to look past him to read his lines.
Prakash, who has done two films with Akshay, recently said that this was only one of maybe 2 issues that are problematic with the Bollywood star, and that his experiences with him have been nothing but positive. Speaking on the Just Curious India podcast, Prakash said, “People in Bollywood get angry with Akshay for the money he demands or about how casual he is about acting. But as a person, he is a great guy. Akshay is extremely friendly and very human.”
The Airlift actor added that it is nearly impossible to act with Akshay. “If the camera is placed behind him and he is giving lines, he will do jokes while acting. Even when doing serious roles, in between he will ask me to tell a funny line. I won’t do it because it is not right for the film, and there have been times when the mics were on and director Sudha Kongra heard our banter and asked Akshay not to corrupt me,” he said.
During the podcast, Prakash also spoke of his working relationship with John Abraham, with whom he has also done two films. “John is one of the most supportive co-stars. He’s the kind who will tell that having people like me on board is what will make the film better,” said Prakash.
