For fans waiting to watch Malayalam films in theatres, this week has been an exciting one. Filmmakers have been announcing the release dates of their movies and after Dulquer Kurup, Mohanlal’s Aaraattu, we now have that Vineeth Sreenivasan’s Hridayam, which has Pranav Mohanlal, Kalyani Priyadarshan and Darshana Rajendran as part of the cast, will be releasing on January 21, 2022.

The makers had earlier announced that the movie will hit theatres in January 2022 through the song video Darshana. Reports now suggest that the producer of the film, Merryland Cinemas, has signed agreements to release the film in theatres on January 21 and will announce it officially once the Censor Board clears the movie.

The coming-of-age romantic drama, which revolves around Pranav’s character Arun during his college years and after that, is a tale of friendship, love, heartbreak and maturity. Vineeth in an earlier interview had said that Hridayam is inspired from a series of incidents from his and his friends’ lives.

The movie’s song Darshana – featuring Pranav and Darshana – has already captivated fans and has crossed over 5.9 million views within three days of its release. Hridayam, which has music composed by Hesham Abdul Wahab, has 15 tracks in total sung by artistes such as KS Chithra, Unni Menon, Srinivas, Prithviraj Sukumaran and Sachin Warrier.

The upcoming months will be crucial for Mollywood and especially filmmakers to see how the audience returns to theatres. Dulquer Salmaan’s Kurup will release on November 12, Hridayam on January 21 and Aaraattu on February 10. This leaves slots open in December – which could be taken up by Mohanlal’s Marakkar: Arabikadalinte Simham or Mammootty’s Puzhu. Other films lined up for release include Indrajith Sukumaran’s Aaha, Asif Ali’s Ellam Sheriyakum and Kunchacko Boban’s Bheemante Vazhi.
