Pranav Mohanlal is unlike any starkid we have seen in recent times, as he clearly avoids the limelight that comes with being the son of Malayalam superstar Mohanlal. But with his latest film, Dies Irae, the young actor has managed to replicate the box office record of his father. Pranav has managed to score a hat-trick of Rs 50 crore grossers at the box office, a feat only his father has achieved before in Malayalam cinema.
Pranav Mohanlal’s hat-trick of Rs 50 crore grossers
Pranav Mohanlal’s latest Malayalam film Dies Irae has hit Rs 50 crore, per online trackers, making it his third film to hit the coveted number after Hridayam and Varshangalkku Shesham. His father Mohanlal has already made this milestone when his L2 Empuraan, Thudarum and Hridayapoorvam all hit Rs 50 crore.
The official figure for Dies Irae stands at Rs 49 crore, as per Sacnilk, which also reported that the Rahul Sadasivan-directed horror film made Rs 2.25 crore at the box office in India net collections. The total India collections stand at Rs 24.60 crore. Pranav last starred in Varshangalkku Shesham, directed by actor-singer-filmmaker Vineeth Sreenivasan, which had a total box office collection of Rs 81.7 crore in 2024. His Hridayam was also a Vineeth Sreenivasan directorial in 2022, which made Rs 53.1 crore.
Notably, Mohanlal scored the hat-trick of success with three films released this year with L2 Empuraan becoming the highest Malayalam grosser before Lokah Chapter 1 Chandra toppled it from top spot.

Dies Irae
Dies Irae has been running successfully in theatres as it completes even on week days. The film enjoyed a free run at the cinemas till now, with only Innocent and Roshan Mathew-starrer Ithiri Neram scheduled to hit the big screen on November 7 (tomorrow). Even across the country, not many films have been performing well with the Bollywood horror comedy, Thamma, starring Ayushmann Khurrana, also earning lesser than Dies Irae. On its 16th day at the box office, the film, which also stars Rashmika Mandanna, made only Rs 2 crore (as per early estimates on Sacnilk). But Thamma, which was a Diwali release, has total India collections of Rs 126.05 crore.
