There has been talk of an Indian version of Modern Love, the Amazon Prime Video drama anthology series based on The New York Times podcast of the same name.
Mid-Day writes that Scam 1992 actor Pratik Gandhi, Fatima Sana Shaikh of Dangal-fame and Wamiqa Gabbi, who was recently seen in sports drama 83, will feature in the series. The three actors have reportedly shot their sequences.
Mid-Day also notes that Amazon Prime India's team, headed by Aparna Purohit, has been working on making the Indian adaptation happen for the past two years.
It was previously reported that Vishal Bhardwaj, Hansal Mehta, Alankrita Shrivastava, Anjali Menon, Shonali Bose and Dhruv Sehgal will direct.
A source told the outlet that Modern Love India will be along the same lines as the original series, and will tell "everyday stories about relationships, tugging at your heartstrings with their honesty and simplicity."
The six directors developed these stories along with their team of writers, which were later vetted by Amazon's writers' room, added the source.
Modern Love India was shot across Mumbai in November 2021, and will soon move to the post-production phase in February. Amazon Prime Video intends to release the show sometime this year, said the source.
The second season of John Carney-created Modern Love premiered on the platform last year. Kit Harington, Minnie Driver, Gbenga Akinnagbe, Tobias Menzies, Lucy Boynton, Tom Burke, Zoe Chao, Grace Edwards, Dominique Fishback, Garrett Hedlund, Zane Pais, Anna Paquin, Isaac Powell, Marquis Rodriguez, and Lulu Wilson made up the cast.
