Malayalam actor Basil Joseph is on a roll these days. The actor has been part of two major hits – Jan-e-Man and Jaya Jaya Jaya Jaya Hey – the past two years and will look to continue that run with his upcoming movie Kadina Kadoramee Andakadaham, which is set to hit theatres on April 21.

In an exclusive chat with OTTplay, the movie’s debutant filmmaker Muhashin tells us about choosing the movie for his debut, working with Basil and more.

The film’s trailer and teasers have already hinted that Kadina Kadoramee Andakadaham is set during the pandemic. “It’s a feel-good movie, that said it’s also an emotional journey about the struggles the protagonist faces,” Muhashin explains.

The movie is scripted by Unda and Puzhu co-writer Harshad. On how the project shaped up, the director tells us, “I began my career with Rosshan Andrrews. The past few years, I have been working with Zakariya, Muhsin Parari and Harshad ikka. All of us dreamt about working in films and started our journey together. Harshad ikka was the one to first achieve that goal and so, he is a mentor of sorts for all of us. That’s how when he narrated this idea, I got interested and decided to do the movie.”

The movie hits theatres as an Eid release during an already crowded season that will see Aashiq Abu’s Neelavelicham, Irshad Parari’s Ayalvaashi and Ashraf Hamza’s Sulaikha Manzil. Ask Muhashin if he’s worried that the film could get lost considering it doesn’t have a superstar in its cast list and the director says, “If this movie had a superstar in the lead, it would have run in his name. When that happens, the movie becomes more than the story. We had in fact prayed that this movie won’t have a star as we wanted people to focus on the story alone.”

Muhashin, however, is thrilled that he got to work with Basil in the film, which also has Swati Das Prabhu, Binu Pappu, Indrans, Jaffer Idukki and Fara Shibla.

“It’s a humour-driven movie. But more than the storyline, I would say that people would see a totally different side of Basil in this movie,” says Muhasin. “I don’t know how much the film will collect at the box office, but one thing I can surely say is that the actor in Basil amazed me and it will be the same for the audience as well. His performance has reached a level where he is proving that he can shoulder any character and not just those boy-next-door or comedy roles. That’s how good his portrayal has been in this film too.”
