Akshay Kumar’s highly awaited next film, Prithviraj, has got a new release date. The makers have unveiled new character posters from the film, while also announcing the release date. The posters give viewers a glimpse into the regal characters.

Kumar took to his official social media handles to announce the exciting news, posting a short clip announcing the new date and revealing the new posters as well. The first of the posters, all of which are dotted with golden hues, shows Kumar decked in the golden battle armour of the famous emperor, Samrat Prithviraj Chauhan, with a sword and shield in his arms. Manushi Chhillar, who makes her Bollywood debut with the film, looks strikingly majestic as queen Sanyogita. The characters, played by Sanjay Dutt and Sonu Sood, are named Kaka Kanha and Chand Bardai respectively. While the former is seen waving a flag in the battleground, the latter has a scroll in his hand.

Chandraprakash Dwivedi has directed Prithviraj, which is produced under the banner of Yash Raj Films. The film had begun its principal photography back in 2019. It had also found itself at the centre of controversy due to its title. A group in Chandigarh claimed that the film was disrespecting the late emperor by not including his full name or the words ‘king’.

The upcoming film had earlier been scheduled to be released on January 21 and was among the many such titles that postponed their release dates due to the worsening COVID-19 pandemic situation. The historical drama will now be released in theatres on June 10, 2022, in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu.
