Working with an ensemble cast is nothing new for Prithviraj. But for Kuruthi, each of the characters are vital to the plot and the Malayalam superstar, who also co-produced the film, said that he didn’t have to look for a second option when it came to its casting.

“I knew right from the beginning that if this film has to be right, the casting has to be right. Everybody who we went to, read the script and immediately came on board. You cannot take one character away from the plot and have Kuruthi as a complete film,” said Prithviraj, talking to the media at the film’s virtual trailer launch.

Apart from Prithviraj, the film features Roshan Mathew, Srinda, Murali Gopi, Mamukkoya, Shine Tom Chacko, Manikandan Achari, Navas Vallikunnu, Naslen K Gafoor and Sagar Surya.

Further on the characters, Prithviraj said, “The story traverses through each person and there are particular points at which the story is traveling from each character's perspective. Srinda’s Sumathi will be one of the most powerful female characters we have seen in mainstream Malayalam cinema.”

Kuruthi released on Amazon Prime Video on August 11 and has opened to positive response. The story, which mostly takes place inside a house, follows Ibrahim, a rubber tapper who is stuck inside his house fending off an uninvited guest after an injured cop seeks refuge. The film has powerful performances from all the actors involved. The casting is one of the many highlights from this home-invasion cum socio-political thriller.

Kuruthi, directed by Manu Warrier, will mark his debut as a director in Malayalam cinema. He has previously worked in the Hindi film industry and has helmed the 2015 movie, Coffee Blossom. Jakes Bejoy has composed the music for the film while Abinandhan Ramanujam is the cinematographer.
