It’s been five years since Malayalam star Prithviraj Sukumaran worked in another industry. However, that’s set to change with him being part of KGF director Prashanth Neel’s upcoming action entertainer Salaar, which has Baahubali star Prabhas in the lead.

In a recent interview ahead of the release of his upcoming movie Jana Gana Mana, Prithviraj talked about why he accepted to be part of Salaar and when he will be shooting for the movie.

The actor told The Cue the reason he had not signed any films from other industries after 2017’s Naam Shabana was that he didn’t come across any scripts that excited him as much as his Malayalam projects.

However, recently he had read a lot of scripts of both movies and web series that he found interesting, Prithviraj said. On Salaar, the actor-director said that Prashanth and its producers Hombale Films had approached him years ago to do the role. “I wanted to be part of the movie but then I had other commitments too,” he said, adding that he was originally supposed to shoot for Salaar in 2021 but it didn’t happen for various reasons.

With the pandemic and date clashes with other projects, the actor said he had informed Prashanth that he will again be leaving for Aadujeevitham’s shoot in April and won’t be back till June 2022. “At one point, Prashanth, Prabhas and Hombale Films decided to shoot the movie after I came back (from Aadujeevitham),” he said.

Prithviraj, meanwhile, is also closely associated with Prashanth and Hombale Film’s KGF: Chapter 2. The actor’s Prithviraj Productions will be distributing the movie in Kerala. He also ensured that the film’s dubbing was on par with the original film.

“It’s important for a movie like KGF: Chapter 2 to succeed, not just for Kannada cinema but for all industries,” he said, at the press meet held in Kochi recently. “Only when such films succeed and it becomes clear that these movies are profitable, more such movies will be backed.”
