The title song of director Dijo Jose Antony’s Jana Gana Mana, starring Prithviraj Sukumaran and Suraj Venjaramoodu, was lauded when it accompanied the film’s teaser way back in January 2021. Now, days ahead of its theatrical release, the makers have shared the visuals of the song along with its full version.

Composed by Jakes Bejoy and rendered by Shankar Mahadevan, the movie anthem is a rousing track that also mirrors the campus politics that seem to be an integral part of Jana Gana Mana from its visuals. While the teaser and trailer had scenes from the movie’s planned sequel, the video of the anthem had behind-the-scenes footage of the team’s shoot at various colleges across the country including in Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh and Kerala.

Talking exclusively to OTTplay, Dijo had told us that the movie has a campus flavour that was also present in his debut feature film Queen. “But you can never say that Jana Gana Mana is just one person’s anthem, it belongs to the entire nation and this film too travels through so many characters and their emotions. It has experiences that would have happened to different people and it uses all of that and our reactions to those to tell the story,” he said.

The film will have Prithviraj and Suraj’s characters entering the story of Shabana, Saba and Sana – essayed by Shari, Mamta Mohandas and Vaishnavi in the film. Shot on a grand scale, the movie, scripted by Shari Muhammed, will be released in theatres worldwide on April 28. Apart from Malayalam, it will also have Tamil, Telugu and Kannada versions that are titled Jana 2022.

The digital rights of the movie, which also has Vincy Aloshiyus, Shammi Thilakan and Dhruvan as part of the cast, has been sold to Netflix. It will begin streaming on the platform 40 days after its theatrical run.
