Kaaliyan, starring Prithviraj Sukumaran, is a long-delayed project from Malayalam. Touted to be a period drama film, Kaaliyan is helmed by Mahesh Gurukkal. The film sparked excitement among fans after some online trackers said that the team will start shooting this year, with Prithviraj Sukumaran expected to join the shoot next year. Kaaliyan producer on Prithviraj Sukumaran-starrer
Prithviraj Sukumaran’s much-anticipated film Kaaliyan became a topic of discussion after online trackers said that the film will start shooting by the end of 2025 or 2026. A photo of the team, along with Prithviraj, is also doing the rounds on social media. But when OTTplay reached out to producer Rajeev Govindan, he categorically stated the team has only resumed the pre-production works.
“Discussions are going on currently. We have resumed the pre-production. When there is an update on the shooting schedule, we will announce it officially,” Rajeev Govindan said.
When pressed if there was any veracity to the online reports, Rajeev, who has earlier produced movies such as Kunchacko Boban-starrer Ordinary and Prithviraj Sukumaran’s Anarkali, said that they do not have an exact start date. But Rajeev did confirm to OTTplay that the team expects to wrap up the shooting of Kaaliyan next year.
Prithviraj Sukumaran’s Kaaliyan plot overview
The upcoming Malayalam film, billed as a period drama, revolves around the life of a 17th-century warrior from Kerala, named Kunchirakkotu Kali. A trusted aide of the renowned Iravikkutty Pillai, Kunchirakkotu Kali remains hardly known to the common public. The film attempts to portray his life with Prithviraj playing the titular role. Earlier reports had said that Sathyaraj would be seen as Iravikkutty Pillai.
But Rajeev did not give an update on the cast, insisting that every aspect is under discussion now.
Meanwhile, Prithviraj was last seen in Mohanlal-starrer L2 Empuraan. Prithviraj had also directed the Lucifer sequel. He is also part of SS Rajamouli’s SSMB29, starring Mahesh Babu.
