Empuraan director Prithviraj Sukumaran established himself as a force to be reckoned with very early on in his career as an actor. He once again proved his mettle with the blockbuster film Lucifer, but this time as a director. The stellar actor-director is now back with the sequel to the 2019 film, Empuraan, starring Mohanlal. During one of the promotional interviews, Prithviraj Sukumaran also spoke about his interaction with the top official of a leading OTT platform, who raised doubts about making a particular scene in Empuraan. The L2E director has a reply for him now.

Undoubtedly, Empuraan has been mounted on a massive scale, that is definitely not the norm in the small film industry from Kerala. With its elaborate settings and high-octane action scenes, Empuraan has tried to break new ground in Malayalam. Such was the mammoth effort needed to pull off the film that a streaming platform official told Prithviraj that it was impossible to do a particular scene.

Recounting his interaction with the top official of the streaming platform, Prithviraj said that he narrated the movie over a Zoom call. This was during the project conception stage, for them to invest in the movie, Prithviraj explained.

“I was narrating about a particular scene that comes one hour into the first half. But the official interrupted me and asked how I was going to pull it off. I told him I have a plan in mind,” Prithviraj recalled.

“But the person insisted that it is not going to happen. That person is still working at the same streaming platform. So, if you are listening, by the way, I pulled it off,” quipped the Empuraan director.

Supriya lauds Prithviraj

Earlier, Prithviraj’s wife Supriya too lauded her husband for the tremendous hard work and effort that he has put into making one of the most ambitious films from Malayalam.  “I know how much people have ridiculed you and the audacity of your dreams. To all of those naysayers I have only one thing to say “Aalarinjyu Kalikyada,” a proud Supriya wrote on Instagram.

Six years after the political action thriller Lucifer hit the big screen in 2019, Empuraan released in theatres worldwide on March 27.
