It’s one grey character after the other for Malayalam superstar Prithviraj Sukumaran. The actor, who will be seen in the role of a goon in Shaji Kailas’ Kaapa, wrapped up his portions for the film in Thiruvananthapuram on Friday and will next begin shooting for Jayan Nambiar’s directorial Vilayath Buddha.

The upcoming movie, which is based on GR Indugopan’s novel, has the actor essaying the role of a sandalwood smuggler who goes head-to-head with his former teacher over a premium quality of sandalwood that the latter has been growing outside his house for a personal use.

Prithviraj’s character is named Double Mohanan in the movie, which reportedly also has Kottayam Ramesh or Shammi Thilakan essaying the role of Bhaskaran mash. Anu Mohan will also play a pivotal roles in the film, which is set to go on floors in October 7.

The movie, which was earlier set to be helmed by the late filmmaker Sachy, has now been picked up by his associate Jayan Nambiar. The latter had worked as an associate director in Sachy’s films with Prithviraj – Anarkali and Ayyappanum Koshiyum. Vilayath Buddha is scripted by GR Indugopan and Rajesh Pinnadan, who had recently written the screenplay for Biju Menon’s Oru Thekkan Thallu Case that was also based on Indugopan’s story titled Amminipilla Vettu Case.

Meanwhile, Prithviraj’s upcoming release is Alphonse Puthren’s Gold, which also has Nayanthara in the lead. The film was set to hit theatres on September 8 but was delayed as several work on the movie was still pending. The makers are yet to announce a new release date but Alphonse recently clarified the reason for the delay, saying that it was the theatre exhibitors’ suggestion to release the movie during Onam and that a bit of work on CGI, music and colouring is still left.

Prithviraj is also part of KGF director Prashanth Neel’s Salaar, which has Prabhas in the lead.
