With theatres remaining closed and audiences expressing apprehensions to return to closed spaces in large numbers soon, filmmakers and producers are left with no choice but to opt for OTT releases for much-anticipated movies. After Drishyam 2 and Joji, Prithviraj’s Bhramam could be the latest to join the list from the Malayalam film industry.

The movie, which is a remake of Ayushmann Khurrana’s superhit Bollywood film Andhadhun, had begun shooting in January and had reportedly wrapped up the filming before the second wave of COVID-19 forced a State-wide lockdown in Kerala.

A source from the team informs OTTplay, “We are in discussions with Amazon Prime Video. The initial idea was to release it in theatres but due to the prevailing situation, it seems unlikely. With Bhramam, there is high probability that it will be a direct-to-OTT release.”

The movie, which is directed by acclaimed cinematographer Ravi K Chandran, has Prithviraj playing Ayushmann Khurrana’s role of a visually-impaired musician. The movie also has Mamta Mohandas, Unni Mukundan, Raashi Khanna, Shankar and Ananya in pivotal roles. Jakes Bejoy has composed the music of the film, which was shot entirely in Ernakulam.

Incidentally, the makers of Prithviraj’s Cold Case are also in discussions with Amazon Prime Video for a direct OTT release. The deal is yet to be signed with the film’s producer Anto Joseph also keen on selling the digital rights of Fahadh Faasil’s Malik. Cold Case is an investigative thriller, directed by cinematographer-turned-filmmaker Tanu Balak.
