A few years ago, it was almost unthinkable for mainstream actors to work on original content for streaming platforms. All that, of course, is a thing of the past, with pretty much everyone worth his/her salt experimenting with content creation across platforms. The pandemic, reckons actor Priya Mani, who was among the early birds taking to his whole new OTT world, was a major factor in getting talent like her to try it out.
Speaking at the inaugural OTTplay Changemakers 2023 awards in Mumbai, where she won the All-rounder of the Year for her work across industries in both theatrical and OTT content, Priya said, “I’m really happy and glad that I joined the OTT scene. Before the pandemic, OTTs were, perhaps, not that famous, barring 1-2 big streamers. During and after the pandemic is when there was a massive boom of OTT platforms with original films and shows being made here. This phase was a real gamechanger. I’m glad that I debuted in the OTT space and I thank my husband for that, because without him, I may not have taken the plunge.”
Who is she dedicating her award to? “To the makers of Family Man, of course. This award belongs to Raj sir and DK sir and the entire cast and crew. I am thankful to Raj sir and DK sir for thinking that I could be Family Man’s Suchi,” she says. Considering that she is a changemaker herself, one wonders who, according to Priya is a changemaker in her life? “All the people I ever meet. Every day, in different walks of life, I keep meeting people and in their own little ways they keep changing me for the better. So, first and foremost, my family, then, all the fans and audiences who keep showering me with love and affection and support,” says Priya.
