Priyadarshan's upcoming film Bhooth Bangla is full of nostalgia and rooted in India's rich folklore, promising to deliver a unique blend of horror and comedy. Starring Akshay Kumar, the film goes beyond typical scares and laughs, exploring age-old beliefs around ghosts, rituals, and the supernatural. Ahead of its April 10 theatrical release, the filmmaker called Akshay his lucky charm and also discussed the plot.
As per Bollywood Hungama, Priyadarshan shared that Bhooth Bangla is more than just a horror-comedy, as it is deeply inspired by folklore, fantasy, and timeless stories passed down through generations. He also described Akshay Kumar as "lucky" for him and emphasised their successful collaboration and the strong creative bond that exists between them.
Priyadarshan said, “Akshay Kumar is lucky for me. Bhooth Bangla, is rooted in fantasy and folklore. In our country, there are deep beliefs around supernatural ghosts, rituals, and even practices like black magic that still exist in certain parts, especially in villages. At the same time, when you look at quantum science, our Vedas, and ancient philosophies, they also explore fascinating ideas like the concept of the soul traveling beyond the body in search of knowledge.”
Priyadarshan further explains that cultural beliefs such as the concept of Navagraha, symbolising nine celestial influences, existed in India long before modern scientific discoveries. He noted that these elements of mythology, belief systems, and science have always coexisted and says that Bhoot Bangla reflects this blend. According to him, film is not just limited to entertainment, but rather it serves as a reflection of stories and traditions that have been a part of society for centuries.
Meanwhile, Bhooth Bangla is an upcoming horror-comedy helmed by Priyadarshan. Marking Akshay Kumar’s reunion with Priyadarshan after 14 years, the film revolves around a fantasy-driven narrative rooted in Indian mythology and themes of black magic.
Meanwhile, Bhooth Bangla stars late Asrani, Akshay Kumar, Wamiqa Gabbi, Paresh Rawal, Tabu, Rajpal Yadav, Jisshu Sengupta, and others. Directed by Priyadarshan and Produced by Akshay Kumar, Shobha Kapoor, and Ektaa R Kapoor. It will hit theatres on April 10, 2026.
