The topic of age gaps between on-screen romantic pairs has sparked quite a debate recently. Recently, 20-year-old Sara Arjun was paired opposite 40-year-old Ranveer Singh in Aditya Dhar’s Dhurandhar, and 29-year-old Rashmika Mandanna played Salman Khan’s 60-year-old wife in Sikandar. Now, Akshay Kumar will have an age-gap romance with Wamiqa Gabbi in Priyadarshan-directed horror comedy Bhooth Bangla.
Speaking to News18, Priyadarshan shared his views on the age-gap debate in Bhooth Bangla. He said, “There’s something that people like MGR and NTR used to say… that there’s a big difference between chronological age and screen age. An actor’s screen age may not be his real age. but people accept you for your screen age too. I don’t see any issue there."
Priyadarshan says that while shooting, he sometimes feels like a couple doesn't fit together, but the reason for this isn't necessarily their age difference. He mentioned that he never faced that problem while working with actors like Akshay Kumar or Tabu and he noticed that the audience also doesn't realize it. He cited the writing of the characters and the presentation of their ages on screen as the reason for this.
Akshay Kumar also reacted to the same and said, “Toh kya hai? Humne pehle dekha nahi hai kya kabhi? It happens in Hollywood as well. Sometimes, it’s the requirement of the script. (In real life too), so many people get married to partners older or younger than them.”
According to Bollywood Hungama, since Dhurandhar: The Revenge is performing strongly at the box office, the team behind Bhooth Bangla is reportedly reconsidering its April 10 release and may push it back by a week to avoid a clash.
The source shared, “The way Dhurandhar The Revenge is performing, it is clear that the craze is not going to die down anytime soon. Bhooth Bangla also looks like an exciting film. But since Dhurandhar 2 is doing historic business, there’s a strong possibility that it could perform exceptionally well even in its fourth week, which coincides with the release of Bhooth Bangla. Meanwhile, there’s no Hindi film currently scheduled for release on April 17.”
