The Tovino Thomas starrer Minnal Murali will have its world premiere at the Jio MAMI Mumbai Film Festival, India's largest film festival, on December 16, 2021, prior to its release on Netflix on December 24. To announce the film's world premiere, Priyanka Chopra Jonas, actor and chairperson of Jio MAMI, the Mumbai Film Festival, along with Smriti Kiran, Artistic Director of Jio MAMI, joined the team of Minnal Murali that is, Tovino and director Basil Joseph.
During a virtual session, Priyanka, Basil, Tovino, and Smriti discussed superhero films in India, what Priyanka liked about Minnal Murali, how the film came to be, and much more.
The official Instagram page of the MAMI film festival shared the video and captioned it, "We have a special reason to make merry this holiday season. I am thrilled to be able to world premiere @netflix_in’s Minnal Murali, directed by Basil Joseph, on December 16th, ahead of its release on Christmas Eve. Set in the 90s, Minnal Murali is the origin story of an ordinary man-turned-superhero, portrayed by Tovino Thomas, who is struck by a bolt of lightning, which bestows him with special powers."
The caption further read, "Our chairperson, actor, producer, and author Priyanka Chopra Jonas, and artistic director Smriti Kiran led a spoiler-free conversation with Basil Joseph and Tovino Thomas. They spoke about superhero films, the coming together of the idea that sparked Minnal, the ever-expanding boundaries of Malayalam cinema, creating a language-agnostic global film tribe, the freedom that comes with having a film on an OTT platform, and more."
The upcoming superhero film will see Malayalam icon Tovino as the superhero Minnal Murali, which is a story of an ordinary man-turned-superhero, Murali, who is struck by a bolt of lightning, which bestows him with special powers.
The film also stars Guru Somasundaram, Harisree Ashokan, and Aju Varghese in pivotal roles. Giving fans the chance to meet their new favorite superhero, the film will premiere with dubs in Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Hindi, and English.
