PRK Productions to present a limited series on Puneeth Rajkumar’s Gandhada Gudi?

In October 2022, on the occasion of the first death anniversary of Kannada cinema’s Power Star Puneeth Rajkumar, the team of his PRK Productions, led by his wife, Ashwini Puneeth Rajkumar, presented his last gift to his fans – Gandhada Gudi. The 1 hour 38-minute docu-feature, which was shot during the pandemic had Puneeth and Wild Karnataka maker J Amoghavarsha on a journey across the state, uncovering hidden gems in the forests.

The docu-feature, which saw Puneeth the wildlife and adventure enthusiasts being introduced to the state’s rich bio-diversity, while also throwing him into circumstances outside of his comfort zone, was aimed at giving audiences a more intimate look at him beyond the star status. When Gandhada Gudi came out, OTTplay had suggested that the makers ought to release a much-longer director’s cut at some point, and it seems that this wish may be granted after all.

According to a source from the production house, after the shoot, the team had footage worth 4 and a half hours. “The first cut of Gandhada Gudi was two hours 40 minutes, but we had to cut it down to just over an hour and half for a theatrical release. At the time, it was too emotional for the team to work on different versions, but since we have the footage, we are toying with the idea of making it a limited series; say, a 6-episode series with a lot more behind-the-scenes footage. Seeing Puneeth without cinematic drama, and hearing his voice will be special for his fans and audiences interested in the conservation of Karnataka’s wildlife. There is no time frame set to this, but it could be in the works at some point,” says the source.
