Producer Lalit Kumar shared a lot of details while discussing Leo, starring Thalapathy Vijay, with fans on social media.

Lalit revealed his plan to give Leo the biggest launch globally with a record-breaking screen count.

"We have plans to show Leo on about 25,000 to 30,000 screens worldwide. In Tamil Nadu, it will be screened in almost all the theatres. It will be the biggest-ever release for a Tamil movie," revealed Lalit.

However, Lalit seems to be underplaying the scale of his plan. Should Leo manage to amass 30,000 screens globally, it won't merely be the biggest release for a Tamil film but will set a new precedent for an Indian film.

The biggest release for Indian cinema

For example, India's biggest global earners, RRR and KGF: Chapter 2 were released on about 10,000 screens worldwide. Even Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan's latest hit Jawan had a similar screen count. If Lalit's release plan comes to pass, it would create a new benchmark for Indian cinema.

The producers are venturing into uncharted territories for Tamil cinema. Leo will be the first South Indian movie to premiere in Bangladesh and will also hold the distinction of being the first Indian film to hit the screens in Slovakia.

In South Indian states, Leo will get a wide release despite the simultaneous release of other high-profile films on October 19, including Kannada star Shivarajkumar's The Ghost and Telugu star Balakrishna's Bhagavanth Kesari.

The screen count of Leo will take a hit in the Hindi heartland. Lalit revealed that Leo's Hindi version will not be screened in multiplexes in North Indian states due to a contractual agreement with the streaming partner. However, he noted that the Hindi version will open in as many as 2000 screens, giving the movie a fair shot to make a mark at the box office there.
