Project Hail Mary, the science fiction adventure film starring Ryan Gosling in the lead, which releases worldwide on March 20, 2026, will not hit screens in India on the day. The film, based on the novel of the same name by Andy Weir, wis being pushed ahead by 2 weeks, given that the two biggies releasing on March 19, Toxic: A Fairy Tale For Grown Ups and Dhurandhar 2: The Revenge are vying for all the premium IMAX and Dolby screens in the country. Project Hail Mary, which has been filmed for IMAX, will now be in theatres on April 3, 2026 in India.
What is Project Hail Mary about?
Also starring Sandra Hüller, Lionel Boyce, Ken Leung, James Ortiz, Milana Vayntrub and Priya Kansara, Project Hail Mary follows a science teacher Ryland Grace (Ryan Gosling), who might be the only one who knows what’s happening with the sun. Despite his protestations that he is not an astronaut, the middle school teacher finds himself aboard a space craft when he wakes up from a coma.
His doctorate in molecular biology could just be the key to finding the answer why every star but one, including the sun, is dying. And now, he is on his way to the one unaffected star to figure it out. Along the way, he meets an alien, Rocky, whose planet is also dying and the two then work together to save the stars. If they go wrong, everyone dies, but if they don’t, they can both can go home, they reckon. Or is it going to be a one-way trip after all?
Project Hail Mary is the second Andy Weir novel to be adapted for the screen after The Martian, which had Matt Damon in the lead. The film’s been directed by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, and adapted for the screen by Drew Goddard.
