Puli Meka, ZEE5’s second Telugu OTT show release this year after Harish Shankar’s ATM, is going great guns on the streamer. Lavanya Tripathi and Aadi Saikumar forayed into the digital space with the show directed by Pantham filmmaker K Chakravarthy Reddy and created by Kona Venkat. Raja Chembolu, Siri Hanumanth, Suman, Goparaju Ramana too essayed crucial roles in the show.
The show has been scaling one new peak after the other, post its release on ZEE5 on February 23. The streamer has now confirmed that Puli Meka has totalled over 100 million streaming minutes and is close to being one of the most watched Telugu shows on ZEE5. The story revolves around the police force and a forensic expert who try to catch a psychopath on a killing spree.
While Lavanya Tripathi plays an IPS officer, Aadi is the forensic expert in the story. There’s a dysfunctional family thread as well, where Aadi’s on-screen brother disowns his parents, embarrassed that his father is an astrologer by profession. Although Puli Meka is categorised as a thriller, it offered viewers a good mix of humour, romance and family drama as well.
Srinivas, Spandhana Palli and Mukku Avinash were also part of the lineup. Kona Venkat’s home banner Kona Film Corporation bankrolled the project in collaboration with ZEE5. The writer was also seen in a special cameo in the show, the role of a politician. Despite a flurry of releases on OTT platforms in the last few days, it’s impressive that Puli Meka has sustained its momentum.
Puli Meka’s crew included cinematographer Ram K Mahesh, production designer Brahma Kadali and editor Chota K Prasad. Kona Venkat and Venkatesh Kilaru wrote the story and Neeraja Kona was the costume designer. Some of the other noteworthy releases from ZEE5 in the recent months include Oka Chinna Family Story, Loser 2, Gaalivaana, Recce, Hello World, Maa Neella Tank, Aha Naa Pellanta.
