After his acclaimed movie Avasavyuham dropped directly on Sony LIV, Kerala State Film Award-winning director Krishand is now gearing up the OTT release of his upcoming movie Purusha Pretham – The Male Ghost.

The movie, which has Darshana Rajendran, Prashanth Alexander and Jagadeesh, in the lead roles will also be a direct-to-OTT release on Sony LIV and be streamed directly on OTTplay Premium. The film is rumoured to begin streaming on the platform from March 24. However, an official announcement on the release date is yet to be out.

Purusha Pretham had wrapped up its filming last year. Apart from the trio, Devaki Rajendran, James Eliya, Eika Dev, Geethi Sangeetha, Manoj Kana and The Great Indian Kitchen director Jeo Baby are also part of the cast of the film, which had Krishand as its cinematographer too.

While Prashanth and Jagadeesh essay the roles of police officers, the makers are yet to reveal Darshana’s character in the film, which is scripted by Ajith Haridas. In an earlier interview with OTTplay, Krishand said, “It’s a slow-burner comedy. I have tried to make a crime noir but as a police procedural with humour.”

One of the reasons the makers had opted for an OTT release for the film could be its “slow humour” that might have not connected readily with the audience in theatres, especially at a time when there are at least three movies hitting cinema halls every Friday in Malayalam.

Krishand also said that unlike Avasavyuham, which he had a universal idea, Purusha Pretham’s content is likely to connect more with people in an urban space. But it’s also one of those movies that the audience would have a great time watching if they connect with the content. The movie also has a political statement but it’s laced with so much humour that only the visually-stimulated audience would discern those layers.”

Meanwhile, Sony LIV’s latest release is Malavika Mohanan and Mathew Thomas’ romantic drama Christy, which will be available on OTTplay Premium from March 10.
