Since music is such an integral part of the movie Qala, musician Amit Trivedi, who has worked on the project, told the media during his interaction at the launch Qala's trailer.

"... I kept thinking about it and I was thinking about his character (referring to Babil's) and her character (referring to Tripti's), and music as the backdrop. The story is about singers: he is a singer and she is a singer. On the first day, I was nervous because I did not know how to handle this subject and this era because, as you correctly mentioned, you need to do justice to it (1940s). Because if you are touching some classics from the 40s era, you better be good. So, first day, I was genuinely very nervous. So, we heard the story and went out and partied (laughs!). Then, slept over (it) and mujhe neend nahin aayi uss raatko. Nesxt morning, I pushed myself and gave myself a little talk (smiles!)," said Amit Trivedi.

While speaking about the preparation aspect of the movie, Trivedi said that though Anvita (director) has only made two movies thus far, she already has a 'voice' of her own.

"On the first day, she gave me a narration and took me to the world of Qala. It was so beautiful and unique. And Anvita, I want to say this, she is only two films down and she has a voice of her own. It sounds and looks like no one else's spirit, it sounds and looks like Anvita's spirit. She's got a very special voice and so, when she narrated the film, the whole story and the whole world plays in your head. And, you kind of start thinking about it and I actually slept over it," Amit Trivedi shared with the media.

Interestingly, the film's plot, which has music and creativity at its heart, is being compared to Hollywood A-lister Natalie Portman's Oscar-winning film Black Swan that had Mila Kunis as her rival in the movie.

Qala’s official synopsis reads, “Set in 1940s Kolkata, Qala chronicles the complicated relationship between a young singer and her mother. Will all her sacrifices be worth the success she gets?” The film releases on Netflix on December 1, 2022.
