The trailer of Netflix's upcoming release Qala has got everyone, and for the right reasons!
On Tuesday late evening, Tripti Dimri and debutant Babil Khan were present at the trailer launch of their upcoming dark musical thriller Qala. The film, set in 1940s India, showcases an once-successful singer, played by Tripti Dimri, who can be seen saying she hates music. Although she used to be the most sought-after singer before Bali Khan's character came to the picture and replaced her. Dimri's character then experiences what can be termed as episodes of psychosis and delusions.
Interestingly, the film's plot, which has music and creativity at its heart, is being compared to Hollywood A-lister Natalie Portman's Oscar-winning film Black Swan that had Mila Kunis as her rival in the movie.
The two minutes and six seconds-long trailer, which has been viewed close to a million times on YouTube, is flooded with comments about Qala being the desi version of Black Swan.
One YT user wrote in the comments section, “Kind of reminded me of Black Swan to some extent. Not sure if anyone else got the vibes. Nonetheless, this one’s going to be an amazing one it seems. Tripti is such a beautiful girl and has an amazing career ahead. Although i am awaiting to see Babil. Just want to relive the legend “Irrfan Khan” through Babil’s eyes and hopefully he won’t disappoint (sic)." While nother said, "Not comparing at all but this gives me "Black Swan (2010)" kinda vibe and I'm all for it. 🔥." A third comment popped up, saying, "Dont complain if we get a full fledged desi black swan with some exceptional performances already being promised. Congratulations and all the best to the team!" A fourth comment read, "Love it ❤ and yes like someone else mentioned, gives slight black swan vibes."
According to Qala's official synopsis, the film is "set in late 1930s and 40s, 'Qala' is the story of a young, eponymous playback singer. It is about her tragic past and the ways in which it catches up with her, causing her to unravel at the peak of her hard-won success.be worth the success she gets?”
Qala releases on Netflix on December 1, 2022.
