How I Met Your Mother has successfully reigned on millions of hearts over its run from 2005 to 2014. The plot revolves around the central character of Ted Mosby and the stories he narrates to his children, son Luke and daughter Penny. Ted, through each episode, develops the incident that led to his meeting their mother. Ted, along with his group of friends Marshall Eriksen (Jason Segel), his wife Lily (Alyson Hannigan), Robin Scherbatsky (Cobie Smulders) and the “legen-wait for it-dairy” Barney Stinson (Neil Patrick Harris) became fan-favourites after the show’s release.

It is said that the entire concept of the series was adapted by Thomas and Bays’ (who were the joint producers of the show) friendship, whilst they lived in Chicago.

Nominated for 72 awards and having won 18 of them, How I Met Your Mother has bagged Emmy nominations 28 times, including that in the category of Outstanding Comedy Series. Alyson Hannigan and Neil Patrick Harris have both received the People’s Choice Awards. Harris has received both Emmy and Golden Globe nominations for his role as the adventurous ladies’ man.
