It has often been claimed that Bollywood thrives on remakes. Be it Chachi 420, a remake of Mrs. Doubtfire, or the acclaimed movie, Bhool Bhulaiyaa, an official Malayalam remake of Manichitrathazhu, Bollywood has reaped handsome profits by repurposing popular movies in other languages. However, few know that even Bollywood movies have been remade in the south.
The National Award-winning Munna Bhai M.B.B.S was remade in Tamil, Telugu, Kannada as Vasool Raja MBBS, Shankar Dada M.B.B.S., and Uppi Dada M.B.B.S., respectively. The delightful Jab We Met, starring Shahid Kapoor and Kareena Kapoor Khan, was also adapted in Tamil as Kanden Kadhalai.
Maestro, which premieres today on Disney+ Hotstar, features Nithiin as a blind man (Arun), Tamannaah Bhatia as the antagonist, Jisshu Sengupta as an inspector, and Nabha Natesh as Arun’s love interest.
