The Karate Kid franchise rose to popularity in the 80s with its coming-of-age storyline intertwined in a karate action film. Created by screenwriter Robert Mark Kamen the series redefined the genre and became a pop culture icon.

The franchise started its journey with the release of The Karate Kid (1984) as a tetralogy. Following the success of the first film, three sequels were produced. The Karate Kid Part II (1986), The Karate Kid Part III (1989), and The Next Karate Kid (1994) followed the original release.

The original storyline followed the life of Daniel LaRusso and his rivalry with Johnny Lawrence. The 2018spin-off series Cobra Kai focuses on Johnny Lawrence and his infamous dojo Cobra Kai. The series features original cast members from the films and has been universally acclaimed by both fans and critics. And on 31 December of this year, Cobra Kai is coming out with its fourth season, on Netflix.
