Regarded as one of the most dynamic artistes working in the Indian film industry, she has appeared in over forty films in different languages and has garnered numerous accolades. She is lauded for her bold and spirited performances in films like Fire (1996), Earth (1998), Kamli (2006) and Naalu Pennungal (2007). Das made her directorial debut with the 2008 film Firaaq, which went on to win more than twenty awards in major national and international film festivals.
