The release of the 2008 film, Iron Man, launched the franchise that would go on to become one of the largest and commercially successful ones that ever existed. The film was widely praised by both fans and critics alike. However, the films that followed in the ‘Phase One’ of the franchise such as Thor, The Incredible Hulk, and Captain America: The First Avenger didn’t meet the box-office targets that the makers hoped they would. The franchise subsequently found its blockbuster hit with The Avengers which was released in 2012 and laid the foundation for future blockbusters such as Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Ant-Man, Guardians of the Galaxy, and Avengers: Infinity War. The franchise has shown no signs of slowing down as Disney and Marvel Studios have several feature films and TV shows set in the shared universe, scheduled for release in the near future.
