Ranganathan Madhavan (R Madhavan), Prosenjit Chatterjee, and Late Satish Shah (Posthumous Honor) have been selected to receive Padma Shri, which is the country’s fourth highest civilian honor, with the government on Sunday declaring the names of recipients of prestigious Padma awards 2026 on the eve of 77th Republic Day to be conferred by President Droupadi Murmu later in the year.

R Madhavan has earned admiration for his acting in both Tamil as well as the Hindi film industry. His sincerity and intelligence in each role came to notice, and made him eligible for the honour. Speaking exclusively to India Today, he stated, “Veryyyyy honoured and humbled. All God’s grace and blessings of our elders and ancestors.”

Prosenjit Chatterjee is a pillar associated with Bengali cinema, which has transformed through a mix of mainstream and experimental cinema. On being honoured, he told Hindustan Times, “I am grateful and thankful of the Indian government and I will not call it an award, but a kind of achievement. This is a very important recognition for anybody. I have been working for the last 40 plus years as an actor mostly in Bengali language, but I am doing Indian cinema. I have been serving my audience, my directors and producers, so I am really grateful and thankful and I am really happy.”
