Kannada cinema’s Chinnari Mutha, Vijay Raghavendra’s most latest film, Raaghu, was widely discussed for the fact that the M Anand Raj directorial had no one but him on the cast, at least onscreen. “Raaghu is not the first solo-act film in Kannada cinema; there have been other similar efforts. The single-actor concept is an experimental thought adopted for the film, but over and above that, it is a crime thriller, with good action and suspense. The team wanted to present this in a different manner and that is how Raaghu came to be. There are multiple locations and the narrative keeps shifting from one to the other, taking Raaghu all across Bengaluru, where he encounters other characters, who are not seen onscreen though. The what, why and how of this will be revealed along the way,” Vijay had explained prior to the film’s theatrical release.
Raaghu, which came out along with Raghavendra Stores, Ponniyin Selvan 2 and Agent, among others, had received positive feedback, especially for Vijay’s massy avatar and ability to hold fort onscreen even though it was only him all the time. The ongoing IPL, exam and election season, though, had reportedly impacted the film’s box office performance, but based on the good reviews coming its way, the film was picked up by a leading network for its satellite and digital rights. According to the latest, Raaghu has been bought by Amazon Prime Video. The network is yet to announce a date.
