Abhai Naveen fulfilled his dream to turn a director with the last week’s release - Ramanna Youth, a political comedy, which also starred him in the lead role. While the film opened to mixed responses, the actor-director will have an actioner hitting screens on October 6. He is playing a big-time goon in the film titled Raakshasa Kaavyam, written and directed by a newcomer Sriman Keerthi.

Raakshasa Kaavyam, whose trailer released today, is an out-and-out action film packed with emotions and violence. Anvesh Michael plays another lead role in the story which revolves around two characters trapped in a spiral of violence. Abhai and Anvesh are pitted against one another in this tale, inspired by select incidents from the epics and promises to be intense and hard-hitting.

In the trailer, a mother advises her kid to prioritise his education and view it as a tool towards progress. However, a wayward father is the party-pooper in the house and a few personal tragedies changes the trajectory of the protagonist’s lives. There are references to Ram Gopal Varma’s Shiva and the filmmaker even plays around the idea of hero and villain in this tale.

Both Abhai and Anvesh are conventionally known for their sense of humour in the Telangana slang and it’s impressive how they’re going against the grain to reinvent themselves as actors with their choice of projects. Dayanand Reddy, Pawon Ramesh, Rohini Aretty Kushalini, Yadamma Raju play other important roles in the film which has music by Rajeev Raj and Srikanth M.

Produced by Damu Reddy, Singanamala Kalyan under Garuda Productions, Cinevalley Movies and Pingo Pictures, the film’s trailer launch event was held in the presence of Dil Raju today. “The film rightly asks why doesn’t a villain deserve a victory and celebrates the grey shades in our personalities. I hope the team promotes the film well before its release on October 6,” the latter said.
