Rachita Ram: I play a commercial sex worker in Monsoon Raaga, which I took up because I trust the film team

The actress has worked with the crew earlier on Pushpaka Vimana and says that they promised to reshoot her portions if she, at any point, was not happy with the representation of the character.

When the teaser of Monsoon Raaga came out, one thing that was clear was Rachita Ram’s character. The actress plays a commercial sex worker in the romantic drama, which has Daali Dhananjaya in the lead, with Yasha Shivakumar in a pivotal character. For Rachita, Monsoon Raaga is the second film with the same crew.

“I had done a film called Pushpaka Vimana with the same team, so, these are people I like and respect. They see cinema as a passion and that reflects in their work,” she said during the teaser launch of the film, about why she took up the role. She added, “When I was approached for the role, I did not okay it immediately, but at the back of my mind I knew that I trusted them. To ease my mind further, they said that I should see how they are going to present my character onscreen and that if I was not satisfied, they would reshoot it they way I like. This is a kind of role that can be presented in myriad ways. The beauty of how they have presented my character will be for all to see on August 19, when the film releases in theatres. But this, I think, is the right platform to thank them for the job well done.”

Monsoon Raaga is a film that was shot during the rainy season and, as it turns out, hits theatres in the monsoon, a happy coincidence for the team. This is Rachita’s first film with Dhananjaya, a combination that she believes looks good onscreen. “He quite literally lives up to his Natarakshasa moniker, so, competing with him was a challenge, but I have tried to match up to him,” she says.

The Dimple Queen is also in awe of music composer Anoop Seelin’s work. “I love music with a classical touch. I got goosebumps when I saw the teaser with the background score. The music gives life to the film and the characters. Directed by S Ravindranath and produced by AR Vikhyath, Monsoon Raaga releases in theatres on August 19.
