Rahman's science fiction thriller Samara to release in theatres on this date

Samara, a science fiction thriller starring Rahman, is gearing up for its release. The film, helmed by debutant Charles Joseph, marks the return of Rahman to Mollywood after a 3-year hiatus.

The film was initially scheduled to release on August 4, but the release was pushed due to some technical reasons. Samara will now release in theatres on August 11, along with Jaladhara Pump Set Since 1962 and Kunjamminis Hospital.

The first-look poster of the film was released through the Facebook pages of actors Nivin Pauly and Tovino Thomas. The film deals with the theme of bio war and the battle for power in the corporate world. The title Samara is derived from a Hebrew word that means 'protected by god'. Rahman plays an efficient cop who leads an investigation team.

Bollywood star Mir Sarwar, known for films like Jolly LLB 2, Bajrangi Bhaijaan, Kesari, and Kedarnath, debuts in Malayalam films with Samara. He plays the antagonist in the film.

Moothon's Sanjana Dipu will also be seen in a pivotal role in Samara.

Along with them, actors like Bharath Niwas, Rahul Madhav, Shabareesh Varma, and Neet Chowdhary also essay important roles in the sci-fi thriller.

The film has been shot across locations like Dharamshala, Kulu Manali, and Jammu Kashmir.

Meanwhile, Rahman's last film to hit theatres was Mani Ratnam's period drama Ponniyin Selvan II. The film went on to become one of the highest-grossing Tamil films worldwide.

Rahman will next be seen in the Tamil film Thupparivalan 2. He is also set to make his Hindi film debut with the dystopian action film Ganapath which also stars Tiger Shroff.
