It has been more than a year since Howrah’s left student leader Anis Khan was killed. For his family, the Eid celebration is no more like what it used to be without their son. His father Salem Khan is grieving his son’s death. Anis’s family fasted throughout the Ramadan month. On Eid, they cooked chicken, chapati, and kheer made of vermicelli. But the house gives an empty feel. Actors Rahul Bandyopadhyay, Joyraj Bhattacharjee, Biplab Bandyopadhyay, authors Riddhi Rit, and Anirban Basu met his family on Eid. Anis’s father sits in the room and waits for justice.
Student leader Anis Khan fell from his rooftop and died on February 18, 2022. The family accused policemen from Amta Police Station of murdering their son. According to their complaint, the cops came to their place at night and threw Anis from the rooftop. However, the SIT’s chargesheet clearly mentioned that Anis was not murdered and he accidentally fell. His family had no confidence in the state police and kept on demanding a CBI inquiry. Rahul, Joyraj, and others visited the family to enquire about their well-being.
Salem Khan and his family live in a small house in the Dakkhin Khan locality in Amta. They suffer from acute financial and health problems. But they honored the guests with Eid arrangements. Joyraj shared a picture of them with Salem Khan on his Facebook wall and wrote, “Today is the Eid. We spent the morning at Anis’s house. Anis’s abba Salem Khan treated us with rice, roti, simui kheer (vermicelli), and chicken.”
The netizens got emotional seeing the pictures and praised Joyraj and the team. Someone wrote, “Excellent job.” And someone else wrote, “Anis’s murderers are still roaming free.”
Anis’s case is under trial. Bikash Ranjan Bhattacharya is fighting the case. He complained that the family did not get a copy of the case’s chargesheet. Then the court admonished the state police. Salem Khan told the media, “The SIT is made with the ruling party’s police. I do not accept it. I will not get justice until the inquiry is done by the CBI.” The family is looking forward to the court, and waiting for its order for a CBI inquiry.
