The makers of Raid 2 seem to have locked in who they will bring to justice next. The film’s producer Kumar Mangat Pathak revealed that the sequel will focus on perfume trader Piyush Jain, whose houses and factories in Kanpur and Kannauj had come under the scanner.

According to a report in India Today, Pathak had announced the premise of the sequel at the Kashi Film Festival in Varanasi during a panel discussion. Uttar Pradesh resident Jain is a businessman who had recently been sent to judicial custody for tax evasion.

Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs authorities had conducted a raid on the businessman’s house and factories involved in perfume manufacture, which resulted in them seizing cash and precious metals valued over 200 crore rupees. The finance ministry had referred to it as one of the biggest cash seizures they had ever witnessed.

The original 2018 film had focussed on the case of an income tax raid in the 1980s, which targeted industrialist Sardar Inder Singh. The raid had gone down as one of the longest that ever took place in India, spanning three days and two nights.
